We are proposing to close our surgery based in Padiham and would like your views and feedback.
As you are aware we are one single practice which is set over three sites: Nelson, Padiham and Rawtenstall. Our patients are able to access services and appointments at all three sites.
We are applying to the East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group for permission to close the site in Padiham. We have taken a number of reasons into consideration when making this decision. Due to the very low number of patients accessing services at the Padiham surgery it is not sustainable or cost-effective to keep it open. In addition, because staff, including nurses and GPs, work across all of the three sites valuable time is spent wasted on travelling rather than seeing patients. This puts pressure on the whole of the service. It also affects your safety if we have to cancel clinics at short notice due to staff shortages. The remaining two sites – Nelson and Rawtenstall, will continue to provide GP services. The closure of the Padiham site will not affect patient registration with Fairmore Medical Practice. However, please note that we will be unable to provide home visits to patients living in Padiham and the surrounding area.
If our plans are approved, the Padiham site will close on Friday 13 March 2020.
All of the existing permanent staff will continue to be involved in patient care at the Nelson and Rawtenstall sites and there will be no job losses as a result of this closure.
We appreciate that the proposal to close the surgery in Padiham may be concerning to some patients.
