We are writing to all of our registered patients to advise that the Padiham branch surgery located at Padiham Primary Health Care Centre, Station Road, Padiham BB12 8EA will permanently close on Friday 13March 2020.
You may recall we wrote to you at the end of December to advise we had applied to NHS East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for permission to close our Padiham Site, and to invite you to feedback any comments or concerns you may have.
The remaining two sites in Nelson and Rawtenstall will remain open. The addresses and contact details of these surgeries are detailed below. As previously, the option to be seen at either site remains. Please note that home visits will remain unaffected and continue as required.
The closure of the branch will not affect your registration with Fairmore Medical Practice and the doctors and staff very much hope that you will remain as a patient.
However, you now have the option of:
- Remaining registered with Fairmore Medical Practice, and travelling to Nelson and/or Rawtenstall surgeries – details below.
- Opting to register at another practice of your choice. Details of how to do this follow.

You are entitled to register with a different practice if you choose. You will need to contact your preferred GP practice to enquire if you live in their practice boundary.
When you have found a practice you like, you’ll have to formally register with it as an NHS patient by submitting a registration form to them. This will be available via the GP practice.
When you have completed and returned the form, NHS England will transfer your medical records to your new practice and write to you to confirm your registration as a patient with that practice.

As you know, earlier in the year we invited all registered patients to feedback to us any comments or concerns regarding our proposal to close Padiham. Whilst this feedback highlighted that the majority of those who responded were not supportive of the proposal to close the site, the majority did understand the practice’s reason for it.
It also highlighted some misunderstanding and worry that local GP practices are not taking on new patients. All local GP practices have the capacity to take on new patients.
